Pull up a chair. Let's talk.

Here’s What He Should Do

Appoint a moderate Republican to take Scalia’s place and watch the Republicans in the Senate twist themselves into knots.  It is stunning that they have already anointed this as a no-go for the next 11 1/2 months.

Edit: A moderate Republican who supports a women’s right to control her own body (sorry, I just had to add my two cents, hee, hee).

Well, that’s where we get into problems. 😉 I get that there have to be some fundamental things, but I would really like to see him vote a Republican with a reasonable, moderate streak — which would likely mean some level of pro-choice. Rather than voting a liberal the Republicans will never confirm — throw somebody at them it will be hard for them to reject.

Best thing I saw on Twitter tonight was this: David Axelrod (@davidaxelrod)

Why do folks who think so highly of the Constitution feel the president should not be allowed to fill a Supreme Court vacancy?

Absolutely … I read right-wing blogs on a regular basis and they are all about fulfilling constitutional obligations (even ones they make up) and now all of a sudden they are running away from the idea that either the President or the Senate should fulfill their actual constitutional obligations. It’s pretty amazing. The other thing I really like is McConnell’s statement that the President shouldn’t nominate a replacement so the voters can have a say. Well, sorry, but they did. They elected Obama to serve as President for eight years, not seven. He has a right and an obligation to fulfill his responsibilities until the last day of his term.

Yep. Things are going to get ugly. Or should I say, uglier.

Man, are things gonna get brutal now. You thought they were bad already? Buckle up!

The Republicans will attach an “if this then that” to it. They always do.

From here, everybody watches the US primaries etc in bemusement. What are they doing? Why? How does it all work? You’ve got to be kidding! We’re simple folks in Oz.
