Something I Don’t Understand

Warning:  Generalizations Ahead!!!

In general, Republicans and right-wing conservatives have major problems with our public school system.  They think the teachers are crappy stooges of their unions and the liberal left.  Same, too, with their views of college professors — yet more liberal stooges.  And, yet, when it comes to guns and mass shootings at institutions of education, these are the people they think should be armed with guns.

Am I missing something?

    King

    Good morning to you.

Tongue in cheek, but with a broad smile, and please note coming from an old guy who until beginning 1998 would have applauded you with; no, in fact would have told you that you got to shout it from the rooftops and call them names.

Then things changed. I think you missed the entire point.

You have far [ditto and enlarge that 1000 times] too much government. The choice of schools, teachers, religion, family life, government, laws, courts, AND GUNS!!! must rest with the people of every community. That’s where it belongs.

Until you return the power and decisions about the fate of every citizen to the people, you will have what you have now, and there is still a long downhill slide ahead.

Laughing is all you can do about government as things stand now.

I wish I could express my feelings eloquently but I feel as though my thoughts are a jumbled mess. politicians don’t believe in education. They believe in politics.

I’m opposed to guns in general but I respect the rights of other people to own guns. If we start arming teachers we are doing a couple of things. One of those is taking time from educating away by shifting it to gun use and training. We have already taken time away by teaching our children how to be afraid with every drill. A bit off topic but somewhat related is this article. I found it very interesting. Again, I’m opposed to gun ownership. http://www.thenation.com/article/combat-vets-destroy-the-nras-heroic-gunslinger-fantasy/

I’ve read some different pieces about the myth of the heroic gunslinger. There was an armed vet or two on the Oregon campus during the most recent shooting and one of them specifically refuted the idea that he should have charged in with his gun blazing for many of the reasons contained in that article.

I heard that as well. That’s the problem with the civilian being armed. First not nearly the experience. Second don’t get caught in the way of the professionals. Third not knowing all the facts at the time.

When someone’s position is disingenuous, it only makes sense in one context. In the real world, it doesn’t make sense. Seems like The R’s are being exposed as completely disingenuous…

If the day ever comes where guns are allowed on campus ‘for protection’ I am quitting my teaching job.
