Here’s What I Want to Know…
January 29, 2015
Posted by on The local newspaper has an article today about ski resorts offering ski lessons to women only groups. What would happen if they were to offer ski lessons to men only groups? Why is it that groups and clubs that are exclusively male must be integrated but nobody squawks over such groups and offerings that are for women only? Just wondering…
“What would happen if they were to offer ski lessons to men only groups?” — So they don’t offer lessons to the Boy Scouts?
I’m pretty certain that there are no ski resorts offering lessons advertised as exclusively for the Boy Scouts.
I have a male friend who belonged to various gyms (and has for decades) that is extremely mad women were allowed in. He didn’t WANT women in there. He didn’t WANT the meat market effect. He could and would go to a bar or nightclub if and when he wanted to meet women. But the working out was sacred to him. He said, “I can’t join Curves, it’s just for women. Why can’t my gender have its own gym, too?” I agree with him. Why indeed? That isn’t completely on topic but you reminded me of that. This friend was (could still be, I’m not sure) the biggest horndog I knew. To me this would be heaven for him — women in his gym. But it wasn’t. I think it’s a valid complaint.
I have more to write on this … maybe tonight. Maybe this weekend. But his point is a perfect example of what drives me crazy about this. Women not only can have, but need, their own exercise spaces, but it’s sexist if men want the same thing.
Good point! As a female, I also suffer from the same thing with the “pregnant ladies only” or “mums and married women only” groups/activities.
I’m going to have more to say on this later.
