I’ve Been Derelict

A few months ago, I wrote about a family I was looking to help.  The single mother has five kids, two adopted out of the foster care system.  She also has a burning desire to help as many foster kids as she can.  What got my attention was her need to move.  The family lived in one of the worst neighborhoods in Sacramento.

I took a few steps to help, drafting a trust agreement that would allow us to accept donations to assist the family, and identifying other ways to raise money for the family.  One of those ways was to put together a collection of stories about foster kids, family, etc., and sell the collection, with all proceeds going to the family.  I posted the idea here and asked for volunteers.  The response was heartwarming.  More than twenty people indicated an interest in contributing to the project.

Well, things happen.  Other aspects of my life intervened and slowed the project down.  More importantly, however, the family found a way to move and they are now living in a house twice the size and in a neighborhood that is leaps and bounds better than where they were.

As a result, the entire project is on hold for now.  They seem to be doing OK, but I also have no doubt the family is on the razor’s edge of stability.

Those who expressed an interest in helping have my most sincerest of thanks.  It was truly incredible the number of people who were motivated by this.  So … thank you.

Thank you, for being the type of person that would even think to do something like this for someone else. We need more like you in this world.
